Ignite – the new name for 6 O’Clock Worship

As announced at the March service, 6 O’Clock Worship is adopting a new name – Ignite!

So Why the Change?

When we started 6 O’Clock Worship, we didn’t want it to be about us as individuals or as a band. We also didn’t really know where God would be taking us on this journey, and we didn’t want to call ourselves anything that would box us in to a particular path. Thus we became 6 O’Clock Worship – a simple, functional title that kept it about God and left us room to grow.

The simplicity has been a strength, but more recently we’ve become aware of its limitations as well. Having the time of your event embedded in your name doesn’t leave much room for manoeuvre – or at best could leave you trying to advertise “6 O’Clock Worship at 7:30pm” – somewhat less than ideal!

We’ve also found that having such a neutral name makes it a bit harder to tell people what we do and promote the event; 6 O’Clock Worship could just be a regular service in any of our local churches. Don’t get us wrong – we’re all members of local churches and committed to making regular services happen. But whilst we always want what we do to be complimentary to what local churches are doing, we want to be distinct as well.

And finally, we also hope that the new name reflects the excitement that we feel about what we’re doing and our desire to see God at work in our lives and our communities.

So What’s Actually Changing?

For now, just the name. We don’t have any plans to change the style or content of what we do, nor the time or venues. We do want to be open to anything God has for us though, so who knows where He might lead us in the future?
